I have been introduced to this site by Ogreninja who bullied me into writing this post :-) "Its the polite thing to do"!!!

He taught me to build, paint and play with my cute bright dudes (dudettes) in Warhammer 40K and Fantasy.

Thankyou to Mrs Orgeninja for loaning him to me when I need help with my models.

I may need all your help in the near future as he has very knidly set me a painting challenge of the High Elf Champion shown in the WH Rulebook and HE Codex, including all the freehand in NMM. He is soooo nice to me :-)
Thanks

Hello Everyone,

I thought it was about time I said hello. Been here a few weeks trying to find my way around and getting some very useful information.

So like any dating site  I had better tell you a little about myself:

I am old, very old or at least feel that way. Started painting when I was 7 with Airfix, did the usual thing with them when I finished which was to hang the good ones from the ceiling and the others had a firework attached to see how far they would fly (no longer recommended for Health and Safety reasons). I have had a couple of collections over the years, one destroyed by fire the other destroyed by a divorce. Had many breaks in between and only really took it up again in the last 5 years following a serious illness which gave me a lot of time on my hands, day time telly only gets you so far through the day. I still remember when the TV would go off before midnight and the white dot appeared and they played God save the Queen.

I am looking forward to a long and fruitful stay with you all.

I love to paint miniatures, but above all converting and sculpting! :-)
I'm also a collector... i very enjoy to add some masterpiece on my showcase, even if in these last times i've sold a lot of them because i've had a lot of expenses for the born of my son and other!
Cheers to all!

Hello to everybody here. I found this site through a friend here in Alamogordo (kdlynch), and decided to give it a look. I liked what I saw a great deal, especially the friendly atmosphere, solid and useful critiques, high quality and skill all around and the fun looking, challenging contests. <Deep breath> I look forward to learning a great deal from you all, and improving my painting skill further.

As for my painting background, I've been painting pretty consistently for the past few years, beginning with my Tau army for 40k. Since then, I've painted Space Marines, Imperial Guard and Chaos Marines, Protectorate of Menoth and Mercenaries for Warmachine and various Reaper minis. My current projects involves finishing my Protectorate, Night Lords Chaos Marines and a Warhound Titan.

A little bit about myself, I am a Northwest boy, bouncing between Oregon and Alaska for most of my youth. I did 6 years in the Air Force as an electrician, and it was while in the Air Force that I discovered 40k and the joys of painting miniatures. I separated a little over a year ago, worked as a civilian in Iraq for 6 months, then returned and have been waiting for all the paperwork and processes to get in gear so that I can get college started and begin my next career.

Well, that's pretty much it in short summary. Once again, I look forward to the aid that I can get from everybody here, and hopefully I can help somebody else in the future as well. Thanks, and looking forward!

Hello Guys and Gals,

Thought I would do the obligatory "hello" post, and say hi. I have been painting minis off and on for about 10 years now, but I have such long bouts of not painting that its like I start over and over with my skill set each time.

Currently, I pain to game and I really want to start painting for display (and ultimately some competitions). I now just like the idea of having a painted miniature as armies seem daunting as I am not a fast painter, hate everything that I paint most of the time (certainly while I am painting it).

Question for the masters out there: how long did it take you to get to the skill level that you were finally happy with some of your stuff? I know it takes time (and lots of it), but I am curious. I hope to have some pics up soon, but man do pictures make you re-look at your minis. Things you think that looked good, don't so much on the photo.

My biggest obstacle (aside from practice) is just sitting down and painting. I always seem to have more hobbies than time.

Look forward to hearing and reading from you all.
PS. Oh...I can't find it, but what's WAMP an acronym for?

Well, I am not really new to WAMP, but since it has been at least 6 month *gulp* since I was last active here and with so many new things happening I think a re-introduction is in order.

At least 6 month ... so, what happened?

On March, 22nd my wife gave birth to our first child (Lian, 57cm, 4100g) and my (our) life changed radically  I can't even begin to tell you how awesome the whole experience is

Of course my family is now my biggest priority and in order to find at least a little bit time to paint every now and then I decided to radically scale down my online activities. As a result the PC stays off at home (well, mostly ...).

Slowly things are calming down ... we get accustomed to the little one, he gets accustomed to us and while the family is still (and will always be) my number one priority a little online activity while being bored at work can't hurt. And I can't think of a better place than WAMP for this. Besides - reducing the online activity and having time to paint ... sure, with a baby ... i am close to finish my third miniature in 2010 ... decide for yourself how well this worked ...

Anyway, I am not sure if someone noticed that I was gone, but I am back and will try to be reasonably active in this great community

Hello, my name is Gerrie Schenck, but on the web I'm known under the nickname Corvus. I've been painting miniatures for about 8 years now, before that I did a lot of scale modeling. I live near Antwerp in Belgium and I have two daughters of 3 and 1,5 years old.

I've been on WAMP a couple of times before, mainly for the articles, but now I decided to register so I can participate in the Red Box Games competition, and check out the forum in general. So keep an eye out in the WIP forum and the RBG comp thread to see some of my work.

I also have a blog: http://corvusminiatures.blogspot.com and can be found on facebook.

Here we go.

Right, I'm John, recently turned 30, and been in to the hobby for about 20 years, when my imagination, fresh from reading The Hobbit was captivated by the TV advert for Heroquest. Since then I have lived miniatures, and, not a day goes by when I don't do at least one, if not a hundred mini related activities.

It's always been about the miniatures for me, I was never really a game, or painter, I just wanted the cool minis, and would build and convert them, maybe prime them, and then they would gather dust for years. When I do game, I'm a sucker for aesthetically pleasing lists as opposed to any common convention of what is 'good'. I always seem to go for evil type armies, especially if they have huge monsters in them, although, I can turn my brush to any 'grimy' looking force. It doesn't help that I also seem to have a bit of an all or nothing approach, so, if I wanted to do an Orc & Goblin army, I'd want it all to be Black Orcs, which isn't really rules friendly. I'm also obsessed with Werewolfs.

My first forays into painting were those original Heroquest minis, primed loving by hand with a bottle of Tippex (colourful disasters with a My First Chemistry set kinda put the parents off allowing me near aerosols) and painted with the paints from a Simpsons paint-by-numbers kit... Yeah, peach isn't a good look for a Chaos Sorcerer.

Over the last twenty years, I have painted a woefully small amount of models, as I always seemed to paint them individually, and got nowhere. I should probably explain that I'm blessed and cursed with both Aspbergers and a short attention span, so, whilst I can commit to a huge amount of projects, they are generally short-lived. The hand can't replicate what the mind's eye envisages, and it gets frustrating. It also means I come across as pretty blunt and/or aloof, although, online interaction can be easier than any face to face stuff. My girlfriend can't quite fathom why I have such a 'social' obsession, because that is the correct term for it, which probably explains why I never gamed much. It was probably around 2001 that I actually managed to paint a full army for Conflict Scotland, and, from then I have dabbled, managing a few Armies in that time, as well as a few thousand beginnings. I suffer from new model syndrome, so I never actually get any real project finished unless I have some sort of deadline in front of me.

At the moment, due to working nightshift, and having a 3 year old, an 18 month baby (game related fact - I persuaded the missus to call her 'Kaya' after the HORDES Warlock), and another on the way, and the short attention span, my painting seems to have plateaued at basecoat, wash, done. I am probably my own worst critic, and I am well aware of the shortcomings of my style, especially under macro settings, but I need something that produces results in the limited time I have.

I'm told my work is towards the high end of tabletop quality, and I've had a few models displayed in my local GW window over the years, as well as having painted a bunch of new release models for them. I've had a few (very basic) painting awards, and did pick up 3rd place at Conflict Scotland for my Isengard Troll, although, I suspect there may only have been 3 entries in that category... I was also recently accepted into Mantic Games Painter's Circle, so, at some level, I must be doing something right.

I was pointed here by Dave, the owner of Kingdom of Adventure, in Kircaldy, my not so local, yet very friendly gaming emporium, after having a bit of a moan about the general apathy of online painting feedback. It seems to be too easy for people just to look at the pictures, and either say nothing, or leave a one word response. Not really something that is possible when you stick a model under someone's nose and say 'What do you think?'. So yeah, this place must be generating a good vibe for constructive criticism and feedback.

I'm mainly looking to pick up a few tips to improve my, what I would say is a slightly cartoony, and basic style. I don't imagine my stuff will really ever be display quality, which is ironic considering how little time I have for gaming, but yeah... I got dry and overbrushing down, can do dark metals pretty happily, just discovered how to do an acceptable verdigris over bronze, although gold still eludes me. I hate painting reds and yellows (that first Conflict army was World Eaters...) and probably have to try and break away from the whole 'a long as it covers black in one coat, it's good' mentality...

Aye, rambling now, so, basically, teach an old dog some new tricks. And possibly how to take decent photos. In return, I could possibly impart the knowledge of frequent ellipsis use...

I reckon that is enough about me for now, so, I guess the next step is to get some images uploaded, cry a bit when I compare them to the quality of stuff I've already seen, and wait for the 'backlash.' Suppose if anyone has any questions, providing you are still awake, ask away.

Cheers,

John

My name is Alan Kennedy, I am probably like most on here; a gamer and painter of mini's. I am also a member of Lothian Gamers in Scotland, but I am also lucky enough to be a member of Shotgun or Grapple; the UK's newest gaming podcast.

As a final thing, I would like to say congratulations on Portal Magazine. Having read it today, it looks very promising and I look forward to further issues in the future.
